Position:Construction Manager Location: Overseas and North America
The Construction Manager (CM) is responsible for leading the successful execution of construction on the project site from the design phase through to mechanical completion and support of the commissioning activities to achieve facilities start-up.
Working with his construction team and with the support of the project parties, they will manage the construction contractors to achieve the quality and timely completion of construction deliverables including constructability reviews, policies and procedures, construction schedules and budgets.
They will ensure effective resolution of cross project interface issues. In addition, they will ensure construction maximizes the effective utilization of project resources and methodologies.
DUTIES
The CM is responsible to ensure the construction part of the project is in compliance with the regulations and governing construction policies.
In conjunction with the Owner's project representative, the EP Project Manager and with Merit's Project Manager / Coordinator, they will develop the overall construction strategy. The CM will ensure the quality of construction deliverables and will provide input to Merit's project controls group on budget, schedules and work methodology.
The Construction Manager is responsible for the implementation and execution of the HSE Management System plan on the Jobsite with the guidance of the HSE Manager.
The Construction Manager is responsible for the implementation and execution QC/QA Implementation Plan
Directs and monitors the progress of construction activities, through trade managers and project schedule.
Responsible for construction trend forecasting of costs.
Oversees the delivery and use of materials, tools, and equipment; and the quality of construction and safety.
Interfacing with the cost control group.
Regularly review engineering drawings and specifications to monitor progress and ensure compliance with plans and schedules.
Based upon direct observation and reports by trade managers prepares weekly reports of progress and requirements for labor, material, machinery, equipment, safety, weather and issues that need to be addressed at the construction site.
Ensure that contractor timesheets, progress billings and supplier invoices are correct and complete and approved prior to clerks submitting to Owner for final approval
Approves change orders, progress payments and holdbacks before forwarding to Owner.
Meet regularly with owners, contractors, vendors, engineers, and others to monitor and coordinate all phases of the construction project.
Review and accept/reject contract change orders.
Responsibilities do not include coordination with government agencies, NGO's community or press -- or any one not-directly involved with the project activities.
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 15 years experience in industrial construction including at least 8 years in the mining industry. The applicant should have good people and management skills to ensure the successful implementation of the construction plan.
